Rhino's was established in 1991 to support the fight against cancer and those affected by the disease. Over the years, Rhinos has been supporting families in Western Wisconsin; touching those touched by cancer. We help through direct cash donations to those affected by the disease and by providing the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute - River Falls with additional donations, such as grocery and gas gift cards, which caregivers can share with patients at anytime. Recently, in April 2015, the Virginia Piper Institutue reported our contributions to their organization to be $30,000 during the last 3 years. We were the primary funding source, with an infusion of $10,000 to start the Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund at the River Falls Area Hospital Foundation. We also funded the the heating and cooling elements for all of the Chemo Chairs at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute in River Falls in 2014. Our plan is to continue growing and continue giving as long as we are needed. We try to give out all of the money we raise each year.
Mike Prine was a young man struck down by cancer in 1991. He was 22. Mike’s nickname to all of us was "Rhino". Mike was loved by many and a group of his friends played softball in his memory for a number of years. Once that group began to get too old for the softball diamonds, they relinquished bats for golf clubs. Since that time, an annual Rhino’s Golf Tournament has taken place on the Friday of River Falls Days to always remember our friend and brother, Rhino.
